I Resolve… to get a little more “Access”

So, some of you may have noticed I’ve been a little (read: a lot) more quiet online lately. That would be due to my move. I don’t have internet access from home/office until the 13th. THE THIRTEENTH!!! I seriously feel like someone is throwing up the Heisman every time I open up my laptop. Yes, I have the iPad; but I’m going to have to admit it…. It’s just not the same.

Accessing things like WordPress, for example, is a pain. The app interface is just not great and doing things like inserting photos or videos? Not fun. Of course, I’m not digging the new GUI for WordPress on my laptop either (live preview is buggy for me this morning); so, perhaps my coffee just hasn’t kicked in yet. With the explosion of entrepreneurs that come this time of year? Starbucks and my fav indie coffee shop has been PACKED – so even working from the coffee shop has been difficult. Anyway, I am looking forward to being back “online” & if you hear/see a little less of me until then? That’s why.

There are other areas of life I could use a little more “access” to. Like, for example, my gym. I woke up at 4, excited to go work out. Now, got to the gym nearly 5am because the doorknob fell off my back door and that had to be fixed – which I was able to do. 🙂 But when I got there? It was PACKED… and I remembered it’s January. New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight = too many people at the gym. So, had to switch it up and went to Starbucks to get some work done early so I can hit the gym later this morning after all those well-intentioned people go to work. Wonder how many of them continue to work out past Valentine’s Day?

I don’t make resolutions. Just don’t see the point as most people break them. What I do might be somewhat semantical, though… I PLAN my year. Thoroughly, by quarter, and life segment. I’ve got detailed plans for work, my family, my personal growth/development.. but it’s not about “wants.” It’s about commitments… as in this is what I will do and the roadmap by which that’s going to be accomplished. Only way to fly, folks. I seriously think that’s why the “resolutions” fail for most; they don’t plan out how they’re going to get to what they resolved to do so it never moves from want to commitment. Which means it’s easy to drop when the going gets tough; as anything worth having always seems to.

I think having a template to work off of is a good thing for those just getting started on planning. While not the one I personally use (1) – I have a good template to start with on my company, M3 Talent Consulting’s, Facebook Fan Page – have you checked it out yet?

I’d be interested in knowing how many people make resolutions & the percentage that do more than just write out the “I want to” statements. I’d hazard to guess that it’s less than 25%… thoughts? Well, out of time – back to the land of ‘no access’ – have a great day, all!

(1) Will try to get it posted on the site as soon as possible; no later than the 14th. You could say I ‘resolve’ to do this! 😉
